Wesley D. Clement, MD North Carolina native offers a highly experienced approach.
A native of Durham, NC, Wesley D. Clement, MD, is well-known in the Charlotte medical community, having practiced in the area since 1975. After finishing high school in Durham, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where he earned his undergraduate degree before earning his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He did a rotating internship at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, MO, where he did his residency and served as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology.
He had been in private practice for over 20 years in the Charlotte area, specializing in Cataract Surgery with Intraocular Implantation before devoting full-time to LASIK Eye Surgery. In 1990, he began performing refractive eye surgery by doing Radial Keratotomy(RK) for several years. He studied under the tutelage of Charles Casebeer, M.D., the first American Ophthalmologist to perform Lasik in the U.S., in the early 1990s. He joined the Carolinas Eye Center when it opened in October 2001 as one of the LASIK surgeons. In February 2004, he became the medical director and surgeon for Carolinas Eye Center, and subsequently became owner and surgeon in October 2004.
He is married and the father of four children, three sons and one daughter, and the grandfather of five, two grandsons and three granddaughters. Dr. Clement not only performs refractive eye surgery, but has had refractive surgery on his own eyes. He had RK in 1991, and subsequently had LASIK monovision performed in 2005. He states that he could never go back to glasses and immensely enjoys the freedom of not wearing bifocals.
