For more than 50 years, Dr. Wesley D. Clement has been a trusted name in eye care throughout the Charlotte community. As Charlotte's first African American ophthalmologist, he helped break barriers in medicine while building a practice founded on compassion, integrity, and exceptional patient care.
Dr. Clement began performing cataract surgery in 1975 and incorporated intraocular lens implantation into his practice in 1977. He expanded into refractive surgery in 1991 with radial keratotomy and began focusing on laser vision-correction procedures, including LASIK and PRK, in 2001. From 2001 through 2022, he contributed to more than 25,000 laser vision procedures.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Clement has had the privilege of caring for generations of families from every background. His practice has earned the trust of a diverse patient population, including many African American and Hispanic families who have relied on him for decades for personalized, high-quality eye care.
In 1982, Dr. Clement served as president of the Charlotte Ophthalmological Society. He is also a life member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Today, Dr. Clement continues to serve the community with the same dedication that has defined his career for more than five decades. His legacy of compassionate care remains the foundation of Carolinas Eye Center as the practice celebrates more than 22 years of providing comprehensive ophthalmic care to patients of all ages and backgrounds.
Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Dr. Clement is the proud father of a daughter, a son, and twin boys, as well as a grandfather of six. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing golf and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.
Zubin Shah, DO, MPH

Dr. Zubin Shah is a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist dedicated to delivering exceptional, patient-centered eye care through a combination of advanced surgical expertise, evidence-based medicine, and compassionate service.
After completing his ophthalmology residency, Dr. Shah pursued an additional year of fellowship training, where he refined advanced cataract surgical techniques and gained specialized experience in refractive surgery and the latest innovations in ophthalmic care. He remains committed to staying at the forefront of the field by incorporating modern technology, current research, and proven treatment strategies into every aspect of patient care.
Known for his approachable demeanor and attention to detail, Dr. Shah believes that every patient deserves individualized care. He takes the time to understand each person's unique needs, educate patients about their condition, and develop personalized treatment plans focused on preserving, restoring, and optimizing vision.
